World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants ranks Sydney as world’s best steak city

The extraordinary quality of our Aussie red meat has been recognised on a global scale with the announcement of Sydney ranking as the world’s best steak city, according to the international listing of the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants. This incredible achievement wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and quality produce of the Australian red meat processing industry.

Margaret in Double Bay, run by trailblazing Aussie chef Neil Perry, featured second on the 2025 list of the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants, whilst 15 other Australian restaurants ranked highly in the listing. The competition proudly credits the red meat processing industry’s contribution to our steak’s mighty global standing, highlighting the quality of our cuts as world-leading in 2025.

While our local red meat processing industry is deeply proud of the products it delivers, the industry is one of Australia’s most dynamic sectors and contributes so much to Australian communities:

  • On a national scale, the red meat processing industry is estimated to generate more than $29.6 billion in total value added to the Australian economy

  • The local red meat processing industry proudly employs 1 in every 22 Australians who work in the manufacturing sector

  • By providing steady employment, the sector also gives Australian families a reliable source of income, as the industry's total contribution to household income in NSW alone is estimated to be more than $4.9 billion.

Our industry is incredibly proud of the contribution it makes to local communities, providing local jobs, supporting local footy teams and backing small businesses across the supply chain. We know that Australia does better when the red meat processing industry is thriving.

This award is a testament to the dedication of our local red meat processing community. Without their hard work, care and commitment to world-leading quality standards, accolades like this wouldn’t be possible.

By enjoying Aussie red meat, you are making a difference to the Australian economy and regional communities. The Australian red meat processing industry can always be relied on to stock your local butchers and supermarkets, ensuring Aussies continue to receive restaurant-standard steaks at home. Bon Appetit!
