Democracy Sausages - proudly made by Australia’s red meat processing industry
This election day, the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) is encouraging all Australians to recognise the industry that makes our democracy sausage tradition possible.
Did you know that Australians consumed around 1.48 billion sausages in 2024 according to ABS data.
At the last 2022 Federal election, more than 2,305 sausage sizzles were hosted at polling booths across the nation. It is expected that there may be even more barbeques on this year’s election day.
Not only are sausages a great part of Australian voting tradition, they also bring us together as a community – millions are raised for local schools, sporting clubs and charities in need.
The benefits don’t stop there – more than 138,000 Australians across this country are supported by the red meat processing industry. That’s jobs in livestock, transport, processing, packaging and retail sectors.
Red meat processing is the beating heart of many regional towns, being the largest employer in more than 300 Australian communities. Providing local employment, supporting local footy teams, and backing small businesses – when the red meat processing industry does well, regional Australia prospers.
The democracy day sausage brings together all Australians, no matter their voting preference. It is a ritual instilled in the diversity and inclusion of Australian values.
This Election Day, show your support for the red meat processing industry and your local community and grab a democracy sausage!
